Your Privacy at Unbracket

The short version: Your stories are yours. We use them to build your skills profile, and that's it. We never sell your data, we never use your stories to advertise to you, and you can delete everything whenever you want.

What we collect

• Your account basics: your email address and a password — or you can sign in with Google instead. If you buy a paid plan, payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
• What you tell us: your onboarding answers (major, graduation year, courses, jobs, activities, languages), your responses to the reflection questions, anything you add later, and your writing sample if you share one.
• Two quick ratings, if you answer them: how confident you feel naming your skills before you start and after your profile is done, how useful it was, and what you plan to do next. These are numbers and checkboxes only, never your words, and you can skip them.
• What we create for you: your theme summary and your skills profile.
• Basic technical data: we count page visits (like how many people finish the questions) using a tool that sets no cookies and builds no profile of you as an individual. That's the whole list.
• The free tool at /try sends what you type to Claude (the same AI service described below) to name the skill, then saves neither what you typed nor what it answered. We keep only counts (how long the input was, which major was picked, whether a method was named, and which reaction button was pressed), plus a scrambled, one-way version of your connection's address for 24 hours to prevent bots.
• If you sign up with a class code, we store a label that says which school or class you came in through. We use it only to count group totals for that school and to give you the access your school arranged.

What we do with it

• Your answers are sent to Claude, an AI service run by Anthropic, to build your summary and profile. Under Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, Anthropic does not train its AI models on data sent through its API. (See Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service, Section B, "Customer Content.")
• We use your answers to build and improve your profile.
• If you check the "Help keep Unbracket fair" box (it is off unless you turn it on), we may also review your answers and profile to test the product for bias and fix translation mistakes. We built Unbracket with public commitments about treating every student's evidence equally, and reviewing real profiles — with permission — is how we check that we're keeping them. You can turn this off at any time in your account Settings, and we stop using your content from that point on.
• Whether or not you check the box, we keep simple measurements that contain none of your stories — things like how many resume lines your profile had, a measurement of the reading level of Unbracket's response to you, and which sections appeared. These numbers help us catch quality problems without reading anyone's content.
• Every profile ends with a "Something feel off?" link. If a result reads as unfair or wrong, one click sends us that output to review — just that one, just for that purpose.
• We use your email address to send you account and service messages — for example, confirming your account is ready, that your profile is finished, or that you asked to delete your account. These are part of the service, not marketing. If you leave a profile unfinished we may send up to three reminder emails; you can turn these off with one click.

What we never do

• We never sell your personal data.
• We never share your stories with employers, schools, or anyone else. You can send your profile wherever you want — that's yours to do, not ours.
• We never use what you write to target ads at you. Unbracket doesn't show ads.
• We never require you to disclose anything. Every question can be answered without mentioning disability, immigration status, family, religion, or anything else personal. If you do include something personal, it stays in your profile under your control like everything else.
• If you joined through your school or a class: your school sees only group totals, like how many students in your class signed up and finished, or how confident the group felt before and after. It never sees your answers, your profile, or your name attached to anything. If a group is small enough that a number could point to one person, we hide that number. Nothing about who controls your stories changes: you do.

Your choices and rights

• See it: download everything we have about you, anytime.
• Delete it: delete your account whenever you want. When you do, we email you to confirm and tell you the exact date your data will be erased — 30 days later. If you change your mind before that date, sign in and cancel the deletion from your account with one click. On the erasure date we delete your data from our live systems and email you to confirm it's done; copies in our automatic backups are gone within up to 7 days after that.
• Take it with you: your profile is yours — copy it, download it, use it anywhere.

These rights are yours no matter where you live.

How long we keep things

We keep your profile while your account is active, so you can come back and add to it. We keep your draft answers (the questions you answer while building) for 6 months of inactivity, then clear them. Clearing your drafts never affects your finished profile. Your completed profile remains indefinitely for lifetime access subscribers and for 12 months after inactivity for 90-day access accounts. For other accounts, if you don't use Unbracket for 12 months, we email you a warning about 30 days beforehand, and if we don't hear from you, we delete your account and data. Accounts with lifetime or full-profile access are never deleted for inactivity. You can always come back later and build a fresh profile — by then you'll have new stories anyway.

Who else touches your data (our processors)

Anthropic (AI processing), Stripe (payments), Supabase / Lovable Cloud (hosting, database, and sending our account and service emails), Brevo (newsletters and product update emails), Cloudflare (routing for our incoming hello@ and privacy@ email), and Plausible (a cookieless, privacy-first analytics provider). Each processes your data only to provide their service to us, under their own contractual limits. The current list always lives on this page.

Age

Unbracket is for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

Where we operate

Unbracket is built for the US job market and operated from the United States. You're welcome to use it from anywhere, but our advice is tuned to US hiring.

If something goes wrong

If a data breach affects your information, we will notify you by email within 72 hours of confirming it, and tell you what was exposed and what we're doing about it.
